I. Information about the Guild
A. Biography
To know who you are, it is important to know where you come from. This is where The Cult of the Angry Goblin comes from. In 1999, EverQuest was enthralling people all over the world, and on the Bristlebane server, a group of crazed Gnomes all sharing the surname "Treetall" were getting a bit of a reputation. Mostly hailing from the strange and mystical moose-inhabited land know as 'Sweden' the Treetall's created, with a few American friends a guild called 'Familjen' (meaning family) so that they could stay in touch, and better organise their antics. At the same time, a mostly US based guild known as 'Faydwer's Guardians' was dwindling, and in an effort to stay together the European members (again some Swedes and a few Brits) formed a new guild, known as Spirit Bond. Through their shared Northern European heritages, and shared playtimes, the guilds embarked on some of the more challenging encounters that EverQuest had to offer as an alliance. Familjen's membership swelled, and aquired a distinctly Danish flavour (that's not to say it smelt of pickled herring) - while new games saw the membership of Spirit Bond dwindle, and a number of it's members finding refuge in Familjen. It was an exciting time for the family. Challenges were undertaken that many thought impossible. A small family guild of crazy Europeans took on - and defeated - challenges that were previously thought to be the domain of 'uberguilds'.More than just a collection of people who played a videogame together, the bonds formed within Familjen traversed into the real world, and yearly Summer Parties occurred, with members travelling from all over Europe to sit around a camp fire, and get incredibly drunk. Winter feasts also became part of the guilds calendar - and again much drinking was done. With the advent of new games, the membership of Familjen has spread to other virtual worlds - and whilst the core of the guild in Norrath may no longer exist, it's spirit live on.
The Cult of the Angry Goblin is the next incarnation of Familjen - this time in the land of Telon, in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.

D. Alliances
Our guild is expected to have a number of alliances at any given time, with whom we cooperate on raids sometimes on group content. We strive to make these friendships instead of mere alliances, and we ask that our members participate as much as possible. Our current Alliance is with Das Sechste Haus guild. We raid with them and invite them to our events whenever we have room. We have a friendship going with Final Resolve where we invite each other to non progression events.
Saturday evening and wednesday we raid with our allies. We would like if participants read our event calendar for details well in advance of the raid, that they are on time and that those able to, helps raising Civic Diplomacy buffs.
Members and Allies are asked to join the GOBBO in-game chat channel to facilitate communication.
E. Goblin's party
We arrange a party once a year, usually situated in Denmark. All members and friends of the guild are welcome and encouraged to attend, but there are no requirements (Except to behave irresponsible when there). The previous parties have all been hugely successful and we're all looking forward to these. Search the Forum for links to pictures, if you want to see what it's all about.
II. Guild Charter
A. Introduction
1. Are we the guild for you ?
- We are a casual raiding guild with focus on members and their families and our friendships. Some of us are former hardcore players, but we have no expectations or requirements about playtime.
- We don't recruit characters, but players. We'll never ask for a specific class, either on recruitment or for a raid: you come with the character you want, we'll adapt accordingly.
- We want to progress together, that means helping each other when we can.
- We encourage a light tone and friendly banter, both in guildchat and on ventrilo. A moderate level of mature language and content is accepted. On raids we welcome this as well, but we do expect you to pay attention to the raid leadership and have a sense of when joking and banter is appropriate.
- Friendship and helping each other is what defines our guild best. We encourage that this extends into Real Life but again, there are no requirements.
- We prefer that our members show initiative. If you need something for your characters or you notice someone else does, speak up or try to make arrangements for this to happen. If you have ideas about guild events then make a suggestion to an officer.
- Using Voice chat (Ventrilo) is important to us. Both to strengthen our cooperation in daily events and raids, but also to talk to our friends.
- CAG members are just that. We generally don't allow people to have characters in other guilds. This can sometimes be necessary in transition phases or similar, but do not expect to have multiple memberships if you want to join us.
- We expect you to know how to play the characters you bring to our raids and guild events. Exchanging knowledge and expertise is encouraged.
- If you have issues with the guild, members or anything else, we expect you to deal with it in a mature way without drama. Speak to an officer if you need help with something. Do not leave us in the dark of night, but talk to us and let us at least part as friends. Speak up about issues while there is still time to solve them. Remember, we are all adults.
- We are attentive about all our members and their circumstances. If you involve your guildmates if you have problems, it is much easier to understand if you cannot play for a while or need someone to talk to.
- We use our website (www.angrygoblin.com) and forum a lot and we ask that you check it regularly to keep yourself informed about events and raids.
- Our members contribute to the guild on many levels. We have one making a custom UI and another is entertaining us with his songs and Ventrilo compositions. One is treasured for his inability to survive a certain Rhino. Another created the Angry Wiki and everyone can contibute if they want to. You don't have to be a master in game mechanics to contribute.
- Members are expected to know our guild charter and rules (not verbatim of course). If there is something you don't understand, ask an Officer.
- Every year, we're trying to organize a Goblin's party in Denmark. It is our hope that both friends and members, old, new and previous alike, will join us.
2. Are you the member for us ?
"Don't ask yourself what the guild can do for you, but what you can do for the guild".
- Are you looking for friends and community, instead of just another job in your spare time?
- Do you prefer getting involved with your guild and its members, cooperating on game progression instead of getting dragged around by the nose?
- Do you have multiple different characters and want them all to progress a little bit, instead of "Winning The Game" with just one?
- Do you find it funny when your guild mates record your antics on Ventrilo and mix them into a song?
- Do you think that friendship should extend beyond the borders of Telon?
...then yes, perhaps you do belong with us.
B. Application process
If you are interested in joining the Cult of the Angry Goblin, we ask that you send us an application either as an email to officers@angrygoblin.com or by posting it here on the website, in the application forum. In your application, we expect to hear about who you are and what you expect from the game, which characters do you play, what level and class they are as well as your progress in relevant quests and so on. We encourage you to tell us who you are in Real Life, but we respect your privacy if so desired.
Applicants get a trial membership of one month in which we expect them to play with us regularly and where we get to know each other. After the trial period, the existing members will debate and finally vote on your membership. Any member can outright veto your membership, but will have to explain and qualify the veto before the officers, who has the final say. The voting period lasts for 14 days. Shortly hereafter the applicant will be notified of the result.
If you get no veto's (that pass the officers), you are accepted as a full member.
C. Demotion process
1. Someone (members or non-members alike) report a member to an officer, or an officer witness something outside of the charter principles. 2. The officer discuss the matter with the member, trying to sort it out. Alternatively, taking it up with the other officers first. 3. If the matter is not resolved by now, a warning is issued to the member with instructions to correct his or her behavior. 4. The member is observed for a period of time. 5. If the doubt isn't lifted, the officers will discuss and decide whether or not to remove the member from the guild.
III. Guild Rules
A. General
1. Guild life and attendance
- Members are required to keep themselves informed about the guild's activities, by means of the forum and/or the Guild MoTD.
- Members must keep the rest of the guild informed about their availability, preferable by using the forum, if they go absent for more than a week. Informing an officer is acceptable as well.
- Members are expected to be involved in our activities, to help others and to take initiative to further themself and others. There are no requirements for joining Raids, but remember that the less you join, then less you progress. And the less you progress, the less you can participate and help.
- We are using Ventrilo both for socializing as well as coordination. On a day to day basis, joining Ventrilo is not required but encouraged. Do remember, that if you don't join Ventrilo, you don't know what we're saying about you. Ridicule is always to be expected, but we tend to ease up when you can defend yourself.
2. Group loot rules
We prefer our daily grouping to be free and unhindered by strict loot mechanics and we expect our members to act responsibly towards groupmembers. Often enough we put up forced Randoming for Heroic or higher items, but setting it for lower than that, is mostly a nuisance. We ask the following of our members, whether they group with only CAG people or anywhere else:
- Respect the others in your group. Consider that they might have an interest in items, before you choose to loot something.
- Do not appear greedy. Remember, your actions reflect back on the guild as a whole.
- If in doubt, ask your group what they expect you to roll on quest items and similar. Need or Greed?
- Never loot anything that you can't give back, unless you are certain it is meant for you.
- Do not use auto-loot macros unless you can control the use of them.
- Remember, for you to /random when you see something you want, is less of an inconvenience than everybody pushing Need/Greed on every item that drops.
B. Attending raids
1. Schedule
- Wednesday 8:00pm to (around) 11:30pm GMT +1 (Alliance raid)
- Saturday 8:00pm to (around) 0:00pm GMT +1 (Alliance raid)
2. Time and place
- Location and time will be posted on our Forum in the Raid Schedule section.
- Be on time for the raid. This means that you don't log in two minutes before or after the scheduled raid time and start asking questions. Those questions have already been answered for others and by doing so you are wasting the time of Raidleaders and the other members.
- If you know you will be late, have your character located close to the raid location.
3. Preparation
- Keep yourself updated on posted raids in the Scheduled Raids section.
- Make sure you have read and understood our expectations for raid participants.
- Take note of Raid Location and Time. Do not log in at "the usual place and time", expecting us to wait for you there.
- If you are in doubt about strategies, read the raid description. If it appears to be a target we have experience with, ask the other members how you prepare for the raid and for any advice during the raid.
- During raid, Ventrilo is mandatory. You do not have to speak, but listening and having a basic grasp of english is required. Raid leaders do not have time to write everything in chat.
C. Raid loot rules
1. Definitions
- A Primary Loot Item is any piece of Adventuring gear of Legendary (Red) or higher Rarity (Purple / Gold)
- A Secondary Loot Item is any piece that doesn't fit the Primary description.
- A Main character is the one you have declared as your Main for the guild. Please discuss with the officers if you wish to switch to another character.
- Remember, we gear up to progress, not to repeat with a new character.
2. General rules
- When a piece of Raid loot drops, the Master Looter will call for a Roll.
- Each raidmember that is interested must make a random 100 roll.
- Only Main characters can roll on Primary items.
- You can only win one (1) Primary item per raid, no matter the length or contents of the raid.
- You are NOT allowed to roll on a Primary item, that you cannot use.
- You are NOT allowed to roll on a Secondary item, that you cannot use, if there are others rolling that can.
- Please also consider not rolling if the item gives you only a fringe benefit (Like a Levitate buff) and another more suited character is rolling. This is a gray area, so we expect a certain amount of self control here.
- Primary loot items that are not awarded to anyone, will degrade to a Secondary item and a second roll will be called, following the rules for Secondary items.
3. Exceptions
- Harvested Materials from Ancient Port Warehouse raid mobs go to the guild / Raid leader for later distribution.
- Ore for APW Armor that drops together with an Armor Mold, is always given to the winner of the mold.
- Ore for APW Armor that drops from Summoned mobs in the Summoning Room, are divided between the attendees on the Raid Leaders discretion.
- Ore for APW Armor that drops from common NPC's are considered Secondary Items.
- Items that are part of Raid mechanics, like Shadow Diamonds, go to the Raid Leader or to a person designated by him.
- Items that through questing gives access to a Primary item are considered Primary loot items themself. Example: The head of Jagund.
- APW Tormented Souls are considerd Primary loot items
- If the raid leadership ask you to play an alternate character, that character can be considered your Main for loot purposes, on that raid.
- Any loot that dosn't fit with any of the above rules falls under the responsibility of the Master Looter and the Raid Leader. Please let them discuss and decide how to deal with these items and respect their decisions.
- Monetary items, Gems etc, goes to the Raid Leader for the Guild's upkeep.
- Crafting Materials (Tier 6 UR materials from Kojan Overland raids) are considered Secondary Items, but rolling should only be for Spells, Enhancements and / or Pota armor.
